Eggplant (Solanum melongena) is an annual seasonal vegetable. Besides India, Indonesia is believed to be the origin of eggplant. This plant is often found growing wild in our forests. However, today the eggplants are grown extensively in different parts of the world.

The ideal soil condition for eggplant cultivation is sandy clay soil with a pH range of 6.5-7. Eggplant produces maximum in the temperature range 22-30oC. This plant needs enough sunlight, therefore it is suitable to be planted during the dry season.

Seedling of eggplant

Soil processing and planting
